About Us

Growing up, I was obsessed with dinosaurs and paleontology in general. I even wished for a carbon dating machine for my 7th birthday (I didn’t get it). Later on, I was frustrated with how outdated all of the websites on paleontology were, and how fragmented the information was. Out of that, this website was born!

About Go Fossil Hunting

Go Fossil Hunting is a crowd-sourced platform connecting fossil hunters with fossil sites worldwide. Our team is building the most comprehensive, up-to-date resource for discovering, sharing, and learning about fossil sites.

Our Mission

Fossil sites are hard to find, due to a combination of inadequate online resources and outdated sources. There are so many rich fossil sites in the country and around the world but most of them are unknown or little known. Many sites haven’t been updated in over a decade and make it difficult to find a fossil hunting site near you without knowing the exact name of the site you’re looking for. It’s also hard to share your own finds without making your own website or making an account within an online forum.

What We Offer:

Visitors can:

  1. locate new sites in the United States and around the globe
  2. share your own and give back to the fossil hunting community
  3. learn more about the paleontology and geology behind your find

Our Values

Responsible Hunting: We advocate for the LEAVE NO TRACE principle. Increased traffic can lead to site erosion and degradation, which is why we encourage ethical collecting practices and leaving fossils in place when possible for others to discover.

Respect Land Rights: Always obtain proper permissions and permits before fossil hunting. Respect private property and protected areas.

Community Knowledge: Your contributions help preserve fossil hunting knowledge and make it accessible to enthusiasts of all levels.

Why It Matters

Fossils connect us to our paleontological history, helping us understand where we came from and our place in the natural world. Fossil hunting in a responsible way ensures that we can preserve fossil sites for future generations.

This is a nice site. I assume the other word-press site was yours and you rebranded? It was quite a nice version but it was missing a lot of useful information for most spots. I look forward to seeing more spots around California which where I live.
